The chief strategist of President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign and the chairman of the Florida Democratic Party encouraged students to re-elect the president at a rally Wednesday night.
At the Greater Together Youth Summit, strategist David Axelrod, party Chairman Rod Smith and a panel of speakers rallied students to vote. UF College Democrats President Erin Murphy also sat on the panel.
The summit kicked off the Gators for Obama organization. Panelists, students and party supporters discussed Obama’s expansion of Federal Pell Grants for college students and his changes to health care coverage.
Gainesville resident Ian Blake, 28, is passionate about the party but disagrees with how its leaders come across.
“Axelrod is a policy wonk and has an issue articulating a message,” he said.
Civil engineering sophomore Andres Llano, 20, said he was not expecting much before he came.
“I didn’t really know what it was about,” he said. “But I like what the Democrats stand for, especially since I’m an immigrant.”
This redesign was completed for my final JOU3411 project. I decided to redesign the website the Upside of Down, a site created to increase awareness of Down Syndrome. I truly believe in the mission of this organization and therefore chose to redesign its website to make its messages and mission more effective. The first image is the original design of http://www.upsideofdown.org.
First and foremost I decided to streamline the overall design. I chose to keep scrolling photos on the homepage, but instead of just having scrolling photos, the large photo also has a messages about upcoming events or items for sale in the site store. Below the main photo is a set of six photos (if you were to scroll down you would be able to see the rest) these boxes would be connected to a Flickr or photo account and would display photos from past events. In addition, I decided to cut down the navigation tabs to four main tabs. This will make finding information a bit easier for new visitors. In addition the store, blog and donate navigation buttons at the top of the page will be fixed on the top of each and every page for easy access.
*** This redesign was done for educational purposes and was never officially created for the web.
For this assignment I was assigned an article and was asked to create the layout for the piece. I wanted to design a spread that really played off of the main ideas of the article. Therefore, I decided to really utilize the idea of measurement. I added tick marks on the top of the page to create a sense of space.
Additionally, the article talks about how measuring the distance of the smell of peanut butter can help to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease. When thinking of Alzheimer, many people think of the elderly and that is why I decided to feature a photo of my grandparents at a birthday party.
A lovely day in the Albertina in Vienna, Austria.

Phistock was Alpha Epsilon Phi’s new philanthropy. It is a benefit concert and it will feature a headline band, which has not been chosen yet. The concert will be held on Flavet field on November 22 and is sponsored by Grooveshark. All proceeds will benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. The director of the event did not wish to say this on the poster. Disclaimer: the headliner is still undecided; Hoodie Allen is currently a placeholder for the band that will perform. The target audience is mostly the UF Greek Community, but with Grooveshark helping to sponsor the event it has opened the door to the Gainesville Community as a whole. The more tickets sold, the more beneficial it will be for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation.
